Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant – Valley Hyper, Nelspruit

Dis-Chem Pharmacies, South Africa’s leading pharmaceutical retailer, is looking for a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant for our Valley Hyper store in Nelspruit. In this role, you will be responsible for providing excellent pharmaceutical care and meeting the medicine-related needs of our patients.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Practical experience using the Unisolv system
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English and a second language
  • Ability to work retail hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines.
  • Prepare, compound, and label non-sterile medicines according to standard operating procedures.
  • Manage the distribution and stock control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
  • Order medicines and scheduled substances (up to Schedule 6) under authorized instruction.
  • Accurately interpret and process prescriptions, ensuring patient details are correct on the system.
  • Pick, pack, and label medication while checking for correct dosages and potential drug interactions.
  • Provide patients with clear instructions on how to use their medication correctly.
  • Handle medical aid claims, process paperwork, and resolve rejected scripts.
  • Promote community health by providing accurate information and advice at the dispensary.
  • Maintain high standards of stock management, including receiving stock and participating in bi-annual stock takes.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Retail or FMCG operations.
  • Ability to speak a third language.
  • Experience with SAP or E-Scripting software.
  • Knowledge of family planning and complementary medicines.
