Job Purpose
The primary role of the Trainee Train Assistant is to support the Train Driver in the safe and efficient operation of various types of trains and locomotives. Your goal is to ensure that customer freight reaches its destination in excellent condition and on schedule.

Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of a Grade 12 certificate.
- Must pass a psychological screening test.
- Must pass a medical examination related to the job level (including vision and hearing tests).
- Must be physically fit.
- Willingness to complete and pass both theoretical and practical training as a Yard Official.
Key Knowledge Areas
Successful candidates will be trained in and expected to understand:
- Yard and siding layouts and operations.
- Shunting procedures and radio train order systems.
- High voltage safety instructions and Train Service Acts.
- The geography of the assigned area of responsibility.
- Safety protocols for handling hazardous materials (Hazmat).
