Driver Operator (Vhembe District)
The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) is dedicated to supporting the agricultural sector and developing rural communities. We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Driver Operator to join our team in the Vhembe District.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating specialized machinery, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the safe transportation of goods and personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Operate specialized machinery and vehicles for various agricultural and infrastructure projects, including the grading and maintenance of gravel roads.
- Maintenance and Inspection: Perform daily inspections to detect defects. Carry out minor mechanical repairs, check fluid levels, and ensure equipment is cleaned and lubricated regularly.
- Logistics and Safety: Safely load and offload goods and equipment. Transport work teams and materials to designated sites while strictly following safety protocols.
- Administration: Maintain accurate vehicle log sheets and trip authorizations. Report any machinery defects or maintenance needs to supervisors promptly.
Requirements
- Education: NQF Level 3 (Grade 10), ABET/AET, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Licensing: A valid driver’s license and a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP). An operating certificate for specialized equipment is essential.
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in driving and operating specialized machinery.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Strong technical skills to interpret operating manuals and maintenance charts.
- Good physical health and excellent eyesight.
- A team-oriented mindset and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Knowledge of safety measures related to heavy machinery.
