The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) is looking for a qualified and experienced Driver Operator to join our team in the Mopani District. This is a full-time, permanent position focused on supporting our agricultural projects and maintaining local infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

As a Driver Operator, you will be responsible for handling specialized machinery and ensuring the safe transportation of goods and personnel. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Operating specialized equipment and heavy machinery.
  • Loading and unloading equipment and materials safely.
  • Performing regular vehicle inspections and reporting any mechanical faults.
  • Maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks and trip authorizations.
  • Performing road maintenance, including grading gravel roads and shoulder repairs.
  • Providing transportation for work teams and project materials.
  • Performing minor mechanical repairs, such as checking oil, fuel, tyres, and water levels.
  • Cleaning and lubricating machinery to ensure it stays in good working condition.
  • Strictly following all safety and precautionary measures on site.

Job Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A Grade 10 certificate (NQF level 3), ABET, AET, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
  • A valid driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in driving and operating specialized equipment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of operating specialized machinery.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • The ability to read, write, and follow technical manuals or service charts.
  • Good eyesight and the physical ability to inspect vehicles.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving skills for detecting and repairing minor mechanical issues.
