About the City of Tshwane

The City of Tshwane is a Category A Grade 6 urban municipality established in 2000. We are dedicated to providing excellent service and governance to our community. We are currently looking for a professional and experienced Deputy Director to join our EXCO Secretariat team.

Job Purpose

The Deputy Director will be responsible for managing secretariat services for the Mayoral Committee. This role involves leading a team, managing budgets, and ensuring that all administrative processes follow government regulations and municipal standards.

Requirements

  • A three-year tertiary qualification (Degree or National Diploma) in Public Administration, Office Management, or a related field.
  • At least eight years of working experience in a secretariat environment.
  • Previous experience in a management role is highly recommended.
  • A valid Code B driving license.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check (including fingerprinting) at their own cost.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Manage and motivate staff to ensure high productivity and performance within the department.
  • Financial Management: Oversee the section’s budget and ensure all spending aligns with council requirements.
  • Meeting Management: Organize and coordinate Mayoral Committee meetings, including all logistics and presentations.
  • Document Control: Thoroughly edit and finalize reports from various departments to ensure they are complete and accurate before being added to the committee agenda.
  • Coordination: Manage correspondence between multiple departments and directors to ensure smooth communication.
  • Compliance: Ensure the City of Tshwane follows all relevant national laws and government regulations.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict privacy regarding sensitive political information and committee documents.
  • Reporting: Report directly to the Director of Secretariat Services and handle any other assigned tasks.
