Job Opportunity: Specialist in Data Analytics
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is the nation’s tax collection authority. We are responsible for managing the South African tax system and customs service. Our primary goal is to collect national taxes and duties to help our country grow.
Role Purpose
As a Specialist in Data Analytics, you will be responsible for collecting, cleaning, and organizing data from various sources. Your goal is to analyze this information to identify industry trends and provide expert advice that helps the organization meet its business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Management: Extract, transform, and manage data from various sources while maintaining high-quality databases.
- Analysis & Reporting: Design and develop complex data solutions, including dashboards, reports, and analytical models to support decision-making.
- Process Improvement: Monitor data integrity and identify areas where business processes can be improved.
- Problem Solving: Identify potential risks and technical problems, then recommend effective solutions.
- Strategic Support: Research best practices and use data to provide authoritative advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Governance: Ensure all data practices follow official compliance and risk management policies.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Option 1: A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Data Science, or Statistics. You must have 8 to 10 years of experience in data analysis, with at least 3 to 4 years at a specialist level.
- Option 2: A Senior Certificate (Matric/NQF 4) with 15 years of experience in Data Analytics, Data Engineering, or Statistics, with at least 3 to 4 years at a specialist level.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
- Strong knowledge of Business Intelligence (BI) methodologies and databases.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with SQL, Python, or R is highly advantageous.
- Understanding of data warehousing and data governance.
