Transnet is a vital part of South Africa’s freight logistics chain, responsible for moving goods across the country and maintaining world-class transport infrastructure. We are looking for a dedicated Fire Fighter to join our team in East London, Eastern Cape.

Role Overview

The primary purpose of this role is to protect lives, property, and the environment. You will be responsible for responding to fires and emergency situations, performing fire prevention tasks, and ensuring all fire equipment is serviced and ready for use.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain constant operational readiness for any emergency.
• Perform specialized procedures to handle fires, hazardous materials (Hazmat), and other incidents.
• Inspect and maintain fire equipment, including detection and sprinkler systems.
• Conduct fire patrols and safety inspections in cargo sheds, warehouses, and marshalling yards.
• Monitor “hot work” sites and provide fire protection for chemical tankers and explosives.
• Command incident sites until a higher authority arrives.
• Manage the fire control room and operate fire equipment on board tugs during vessel incidents.
• Ensure all activities follow safety laws, company policies, and risk management procedures.
• Maintain a professional and ethical relationship with co-workers and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
• Experience: At least 4 years of experience in Hazmat, Fire, and Emergency Services.
• Certifications:
  • Fire Fighter 1 and 2 (SAQA/IFSAC accredited).
  • Hazmat Awareness, Operational, and Response Technician (SAQA/IFSAC accredited).
  • Valid First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA) qualification.
  • Higher Certificate in Fire Technology (NQF 5).
• Driving: A valid C1 driver’s license with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Physical Fitness: Candidates must be both mentally and physically fit to perform demanding duties.
