Job Opportunity: Heavy Duty Driver

The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) is the custodian of provincial government assets. We are responsible for managing, maintaining, and developing sustainable infrastructure across the province, including schools and hospitals. We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced Heavy Duty Driver to join our team.

Position Overview

Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• A Grade 10 certificate (NQF level 3) or an equivalent qualification.
• A valid Code EC driver’s license.
• At least five (5) years of heavy-duty driving experience.
• A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) is highly preferred and will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Driving and Transportation: Safely operate heavy-duty vehicles to transport work teams, materials, and equipment to various sites.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections of vehicles and equipment. This includes checking oil levels, fuel, tyres, and water.
• Repairs: Identify and fix minor mechanical problems and take the necessary steps to report any major defects for professional repair.
• Administration: Accurately complete vehicle logbooks and ensure all trip authorizations are signed and processed correctly.
