The Agricultural Research Council is South Africa’s premier agricultural research institution. We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Junior Researcher to join our Animal Production (ARC-AP) division.
Role Overview
In this role, you will contribute to vital research projects under the guidance of senior scientists. You will participate in all stages of the research process, from planning and data collection to analysis and reporting, while building your professional expertise in range and forage sciences.
Key Responsibilities
- Support research projects and perform delegated activities under supervision.
- Assist with project budget management and the preparation of research proposals.
- Plan and coordinate research activities, ensuring resources and equipment are managed effectively.
- Conduct field trials (such as veld assessments and cultivar evaluations) and laboratory trials (such as germination and glasshouse studies).
- Capture, analyze, and interpret scientific data.
- Compile research reports and contribute to scientific publications.
- Deliver oral and poster presentations at professional conferences under mentorship.
- Provide diagnostic and advisory services as required.
- Foster working relationships with stakeholders and help train support staff.
Job Requirements
- A BSc Degree or BSc Honors in Agriculture, Ecology, Biology, Botany, Rangeland Sciences, or an equivalent 4-year science degree.
- At least 3 years of experience in a relevant scientific research environment.
- Evidence of at least one peer-reviewed scientific publication currently in progress.
- A proven record of presenting research at national or international conferences.
- Experience working with large teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability in setting up trials and performing statistical data analysis.
- Practical experience in both field-based research and controlled laboratory environments.
Preferred Qualifications
The following will be considered an advantage:
- Experience in specimen curation.
- A record of contributing to successful funding applications.
- Professional registration with a recognized scientific body.
