Job Title: Security Officer (Facilities and Operations)

The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) serves as the custodian of provincial government property and assets. The department is responsible for building, managing, and maintaining sustainable infrastructure across the province, including schools and hospitals. We are currently looking for a dedicated Security Officer to join our Facilities and Operations team.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A National Senior Certificate (Matric).
  • Completion of a basic security officer’s course.
  • Active Grade C registration with PSIRA.
  • No previous work experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of personnel and the protection of provincial assets. Main duties include:

Access Control and Visitor Management

  • Managing entry points by verifying visitor appointments and directing them to the correct service points.
  • Maintaining accurate visitor registers and issuing necessary access cards or documents.
  • Escorting visitors to the relevant offices or meeting rooms.
  • Ensuring that unauthorized individuals or dangerous objects do not enter the premises.

Building Security and Patrols

  • Conducting regular patrols of the building and grounds.
  • Ensuring all doors are properly locked or unlocked according to schedule.
  • Identifying potential hazards, such as fire risks, exposed electrical wiring, or water leaks.
  • Monitoring lights and ensuring equipment is switched on or off as required.

Asset Protection

  • Safeguarding departmental equipment, stores, and documents.
  • Maintaining control registers for the movement of all assets.
  • Inspecting vehicles entering and leaving the premises to prevent unauthorized removal of property.
  • Reporting any instances of missing or stolen equipment.

Emergency and Incident Reporting

  • Following emergency procedures and reporting any suspicious packages or activities.
  • Documenting and following up on security incidents as they occur.
