Chief Works Inspector: Electrical
The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and developing the province’s public infrastructure. We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Chief Works Inspector for Electrical services.
Role Overview

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must have:
- A National Diploma (T/N/S streams) or equivalent qualification.
- Alternatively, an N3 certificate and a passed Trade Test in the electrical field, or registration as an Engineering Technician.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in electrical works and inspections.
- A valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will manage electrical projects and oversee technical inspections. Key duties include:
1. Planning and Costing
- Investigate service requests and customer complaints to identify necessary repairs or new work.
- Prepare detailed technical specifications and bills of quantities.
- Develop cost proposals for maintenance and minor construction projects.
2. Inspection and Quality Control
- Inspect project sites to ensure all electrical work complies with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Create cost estimates for repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain electronic record systems to track the progress of all assigned tasks.
- Review and interpret technical plans and sketches.
3. Contractor and Project Management
- Supervise contractors to ensure they follow legal procedures and project guidelines.
- Verify invoices, process payments, and manage project variations or deadline extensions.
- Resolve technical issues on-site and provide progress reports to stakeholders.
- Collect data for the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP).
4. Team Supervision
- Lead and mentor a team of Works Inspectors.
- Identify training needs and provide technical guidance to staff.
- Manage team performance, workflow, and the proper use of equipment and resources.
