The Role

We are looking for a Software Asset Management Consultant to join our team on a fixed-term contract. The primary goal of this role is to monitor and maintain organizational software assets, ensuring they adhere to all internal policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lifecycle Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of software assets, including procurement, deployment, usage monitoring, and decommissioning.
  • Cloud Resource Management: Manage and optimize cloud environments, specifically Microsoft Azure. This includes tracking usage, managing costs, and budgeting for cloud services.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Maintain accurate records of software inventory, ensure licensing compliance, and act as the primary contact for software audit queries.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve asset management processes and implement changes to optimize costs and reduce risks.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Analyze software usage data to identify trends, create status dashboards, and provide detailed reports to stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and third-party vendors to maximize the value of software licenses and maintenance services.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should meet one of the following criteria:

  • Option 1: A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in IT or Finance, plus 5 to 7 years of experience in software asset management (including 2–3 years at a technical level).
  • Option 2: A Senior Certificate (Matric), ITIL certification, and 10 years of experience in software asset management (including 2–3 years at a technical level).

Additional qualifications such as Azure Fundamentals, CSAM, or LISA will be considered an advantage.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of software licensing models (per-user, per-device, subscription-based).
  • Ability to interpret complex licensing agreements (EULAs), particularly from major vendors like Microsoft.
  • Proficiency in Software Asset Management (SAM) tools and tracking software.
  • Practical knowledge of IT infrastructure, network configurations, and software deployment.
  • Strong financial skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
