About the Company
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is the nation’s tax collection authority. Established as an autonomous agency, SARS is responsible for managing the South African tax system and customs service. Its primary goal is to collect national taxes, duties, and levies to support the country’s growth.
Job Purpose
As a Senior Software Tester, your main role is to run complex test cases for both systems and processes. You will identify and log software defects according to SARS standards. You will also perform basic system testing in agile development environments, even when formal test cases are not yet available.
Educational Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Option 1: A National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in Information Technology with 2–3 years of software testing experience.
- Option 2: A Senior Certificate (Matric/NQF 4) with 5 years of software testing experience.
Mandatory Certification: You must have completed formal software testing training, such as ISTQB or ITSEB Foundation.
Technical Requirements
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
- Experience using HP Quality Centre (QC).
- Knowledge of A+ software and hardware.
- Strong ability to work effectively within a project team.
Key Responsibilities
- Testing Execution: Perform Unit, System, Regression, and Stability testing. Carry out compatibility testing across different browsers and operating systems.
- Defect Management: Identify and log system failures early. Update Quality Centre (QC) to reflect testing progress and report bugs accurately.
- Planning & Reporting: Schedule your own work activities to meet deadlines. Gather information and provide recommendations to improve system quality.
- Process Improvement: Apply practical knowledge to identify risks and suggest improvements to testing procedures.
- Compliance: Follow all organizational policies, legislation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

- Technical: Automated unit testing, software metrics, business analysis techniques, and project management awareness.
- Behavioral: Analytical thinking, high attention to detail, honesty, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Communication: Strong facilitation skills and the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
