Role Overview
The Station Commander reports to the Chief Fire Officer. The primary purpose of this role is to supervise and coordinate the administrative and technical tasks of a fire station. This includes managing emergency service delivery, station operations, and life safety training to protect lives and property in accordance with the Fire Brigade Services Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise daily fire station operations and maintenance.
- Lead firefighting and rescue tasks to minimize the risk of loss of life and property.
- Contribute to the strategic operational plans for fire and rescue services.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and safety controls.
- Manage personnel performance and oversee the outcomes of the firefighting sub-section.
- Assist with financial and asset management related to firefighting services.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- A 2-year SAESI Diploma in Fire Technology or an equivalent qualification.
- A valid Code C1 Driver’s License with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Level III First Aid Certificate.
- Computer Literacy Certificate.
- At least 3 years of experience in a Disaster Management environment.
