Job Opportunity: Policy Development Officer

OR Tambo District Municipality is located in the Wild Coast Region of the Eastern Cape. Based in Mthatha, the municipality is named after the struggle icon Oliver Tambo and serves a population of over 1.3 million people. We are currently looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Policy Development Officer.

Role Overview

• Position: Policy Development Officer
• Location: Mthatha, Eastern Cape
• Job Type: Full-Time
• Salary: R 343,223.52 – R 445,515.59 per year (excluding benefits)
• Reporting to: Senior Research and Policy Development Coordinator

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 certificate.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or an equivalent qualification.
• A valid Code EB driver’s license.
• At least two years of experience working in a policy development environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Assisting with the creation of strategic and operational plans for the department.
• Researching and gathering evidence to help create and update official policies.
• Participating in the design and review of institutional policies.
• Monitoring and evaluating how policies are implemented across the organization.
• Assisting with budget estimates and tracking expenditures to ensure they stay within approved limits.
• Handling administrative tasks and preparing detailed reports as required.
• Supporting communication with stakeholders and managing professional relationships.
