Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic Qualified) – Brackenfell Corner
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is South Africa’s leading pharmaceutical retailer. We are currently looking for a qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join our team at the Brackenfell Corner store in Cape Town.
Role Overview
In this role, you will provide essential pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs. You will be accountable for ensuring patients receive the correct medication and professional advice to support their health.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines.
- Prepare, compound, and label non-sterile medications according to approved formulas and safety standards.
- Manage and control stock levels for Schedule 1 through Schedule 5 medications.
- Accurately read and interpret prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Verify patient details and capture script information accurately into the system.
- Pick, pack, and label medication while checking for correct dosages and potential drug interactions.
- Provide patients with clear instructions on how to use their medication correctly.
- Process medical aid claims, resolve rejected scripts, and explain costs to patients.
- Assist with stock takes and ensure the dispensary is well-organized using the “First Expiry, First Out” (FEFO) method.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
- Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- Proven experience working with the Unisolv system.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Fluency in English and at least one other official language.
- Ability to work retail hours.
Bonus Skills (Advantageous)
- Experience in Retail or FMCG environments.
- Knowledge of SAP and E-Scripting software.
- Experience with family planning and complementary medicines.
- Proficiency in a third language.
