About the Position

Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our emergency services team as a Leading Firefighter. This role is essential for ensuring the safety of our community in the Ugu District.

Remuneration

Salary: R 301,728.19 – R 391,643.04 per year (excluding benefits).

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Higher Certificate in Fire Technology.
• Fire Fighter 1 and Fire Fighter 2 Certificates.
• Hazmat 1 and 2 Certificates.
• Pump Operator / Aerial Appliance Certificate.
• At least 4 years of operational experience, with at least 2 years specifically at a firefighting level.
• A valid Code C1 Driver’s License.

Skills and Competencies

• Proficient in MS Office.
• Physical fitness is essential.
• No criminal record.
• Ability to speak local languages.
• Strong leadership skills to guide fire crews during emergency incidents.
• Ability to perform rescues, fight fires, and provide emergency medical assistance.
• Sound judgment for making critical decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Station Officer, your duties will include:

• Emergency Response: Attending to fires, rescues, hazardous material incidents, and disaster management situations.
• Public Safety: Conducting fire prevention demonstrations and participating in public safety education programs.
• Medical Aid: Providing basic first aid to victims at emergency scenes.
• Leadership: Supervising shifts, training staff, and managing disciplinary matters when necessary.
• Administration: Leading fire crews, updating logbooks, completing vehicle checklists, and ensuring equipment is well-maintained.
