Job Opportunity: General Workers (2 Positions)

South African National Parks (SANParks) is a world-renowned leader in conservation and scientific research. We are dedicated to protecting South Africa’s natural environment, wildlife, and cultural heritage. We are currently looking for two dedicated General Workers to join our team in the Free State.

Job Overview

  • Location: Free State
  • Job Type: Full-Time
  • Experience: 1 – 2 years
  • Education: Matric (Grade 12)

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • A Grade 12 certificate (Matric) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in conservation or horse riding.
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Physical fitness is essential; candidates will be required to pass a fitness test.
  • Experience using small machinery, such as chainsaws and brushcutters.
  • Basic knowledge of firefighting and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
  • Basic First Aid training will be considered an advantage.
  • Willingness to work on weekends and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

Horse Care and Stables:

  • Assisting with horse grooming, feeding, vaccinations, and medical care.
  • Identifying and reporting horse health issues to supervisors.
  • Maintaining stables, paddocks, and surrounding gardens.
  • Cleaning and maintaining riding equipment, such as saddles and bridles.
  • Assisting staff with visitor horse outrides.

Conservation and Maintenance:

  • Assisting with the installation and repair of fences.
  • Participating in wildfire suppression and controlled burning activities.
  • Helping with soil erosion control and the removal of invasive plants.
  • Maintaining park infrastructure, including buildings, hiking trails, and signage.
  • Ensuring all work is done safely according to OHS standards.
