Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Grade 12 certificate or N3 qualification.
- A valid Trade Test certificate as an Electrician.
- At least three years of relevant experience after completing your Trade Test.
- A valid Code C1 Driver’s License with a Professional Driving Permit (PDP). Applicants without a PDP must be able to obtain one within six months of appointment.
- Proficiency in computer use.
- Strong knowledge of electrical distribution service maintenance.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict management skills.
- Compliance with the competency requirements as outlined in the Local Government: Municipal Staff Regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Responding to and resolving customer complaints promptly.
- Managing multiple tasks and priorities, including delegating work when necessary.
- Constructing and maintaining overhead distribution lines.
- Installing, maintaining, and testing transformers and switchgear.
- Performing cable jointing and terminations for high, medium, and low voltage systems.
- Performing standby duties outside of normal working hours to ensure service continuity.
- Carrying out supervised switching operations.
- Installing and maintaining electrical connections for households, businesses, and industrial sites.
- Maintaining mini-substations, ring main units, and larger substations.
- Investigating electrical faults and performing troubleshooting to resolve issues.
- Reading and interpreting electrical technical drawings.
