Artisan Fitting (Underground)

We are currently seeking a qualified Artisan Fitter to join our underground engineering team in South Africa.

Job Overview

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) or N3 qualification.
  • A valid, recognized trade test certificate.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of pumps (clear and dirty water), locomotives, hydraulics, and loaders.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience working in a vertical shaft and winder environment.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A clear security record.
  • Must be declared medically fit for underground work as determined by our Occupational Health Centre.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualifications as an Assessor or a Foreman Certificate.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Strong knowledge of mining industry equipment and health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing underground machinery to ensure operational efficiency and safety. Key duties include:

  • Conducting pre- and post-repair assessments on equipment such as pumps, locos, and loaders.
  • Performing breakdown maintenance and overhauling machinery.
  • Ensuring full compliance with all Health and Safety regulations to provide a safe working environment.
  • Completing daily job cards, registers, and maintenance schedules.
  • Performing tool changeovers on hydraulic presses.
  • Assisting with the development of maintenance programs to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Supervising maintenance personnel and providing technical guidance to improve work quality.
  • Monitoring compliance with maintenance schedules and managing legal maintenance requirements.
  • Assisting with the preparation and supervision of major shutdowns and large-scale repairs.
  • Identifying critical spare parts and ensuring equipment data is accurately recorded in the management system.
  • Participating in maintenance strategy exercises and supporting organizational culture and safety goals.
