Artisan Foreman: Grade A

The Eastern Cape Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) manages provincial government property and infrastructure. The department is responsible for the maintenance and development of essential assets, including schools, hospitals, and other public buildings, to drive provincial growth.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A valid Trade Test Certificate in any Built Environment field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience as an Artisan.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee technical projects and supervise staff. Primary duties include:

Design and Production

  • Supervise and produce designs according to client specifications.
  • Manage the production of projects, ensuring materials and equipment meet recognized standards.
  • Conduct quality assurance on all finished products and projects.

Maintenance and Repairs

  • Inspect facilities and equipment to identify technical faults.
  • Repair and test equipment against specific technical standards.
  • Ensure all serviced equipment is maintained and functions correctly.

Administration and Resource Management

  • Maintain accurate records of all repairs and maintenance work.
  • Compile and submit regular reports to management.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and standards.
  • Supervise, mentor, and schedule work for the technical team.
  • Manage planning and allocation of human and capital resources.

Professional Development

  • Stay updated on new technologies and engineering procedures.
  • Participate in continuous individual development to improve technical expertise.
