Role Description

As an Artisan Millwright, you will be responsible for maintaining the overall effectiveness of site equipment and plants. This role requires a blend of electrical and mechanical support to ensure smooth manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain electrical and mechanical equipment to ensure plant effectiveness.
  • Identify and resolve potential machine reliability issues before they cause downtime.
  • Lead problem-solving processes and suggest improvements to the maintenance team.
  • Record and analyze machine breakdown trends to motivate equipment upgrades.
  • Support special projects, including refurbishing, installing, and commissioning new machinery.
  • Ensure all work complies with Food Safety, Health and Safety (OSH Act), and GMP requirements.
  • Coach and mentor handymen, apprentices, and technical operators on best practices and SOPs.

Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) and an N3 or N4 Qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Certification: Valid Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal).
  • Experience: 5 to 7 years of experience as an Artisan, with at least 5 years specifically in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles and FMCG industry standards.
  • Proficiency in PLC and SCADA systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work well in a team and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Commitment to safe working practices and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as per the roster.
  • Available for standby duty and occasional overtime.
  • Comfortable working with heavy mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Capable of working in a factory environment that can be hot and noisy.
