The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) is looking for a skilled and dedicated Artisan (Production Level) in Carpentry to join our Building Maintenance team in Elsenburg. The WCDoA is committed to supporting the agricultural sector through sustainable practices, research, and infrastructure maintenance.

Role Overview

In this position, you will be responsible for the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of wooden structures and infrastructure. This role is vital to ensuring our facilities remain functional and well-maintained to support our various agricultural services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture wooden items and structures, including building frameworks, custom furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, and stairs.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on equipment and department infrastructure.
  • Conduct technical analyses and provide reports on required repairs.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including procurement, expenditure control, and supervision of junior staff.
  • Ensure all work complies with legal standards and safety regulations within the public service framework.

Minimum Requirements

  • A valid Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry.
  • A valid Code B (or higher) driving license.
  • A Matric certificate (Grade 12).

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience in carpentry, manufacturing, and general building maintenance.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical report writing and team coordination.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyze technical issues and find creative, effective solutions.
  • Professionalism: Strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a focus on customer service.
