Role Overview
The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is looking for a qualified and competent Carpenter to join our Facilities Maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical design, production, and maintenance services for building projects and infrastructure.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
- An appropriate Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry.
- A valid Code B (or higher) driving license.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Production: Create and build carpentry-related requirements, including building frameworks, custom furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, and decorative trims.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Perform general repairs on infrastructure and equipment to support the department’s facilities.
- Administration: Manage related administrative functions, including procurement, expenditure control, and reporting.
- Compliance: Ensure all work meets legal requirements and safety standards within the public service environment.
Knowledge and Competencies
- Technical analysis and manufacturing of wooden structures.
- Knowledge of the legislative framework governing the public service.
- Experience in maintenance, repairs, and supervision.
- Customer focus and the ability to adapt to different working environments.
Required Skills
- Computer literacy (MS Office).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Technical report writing and analytical thinking.
- Planning, organizing, and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
