Role Overview

The Western Cape Department of Agriculture is looking for a qualified and competent Carpenter to join our Facilities Maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical design, production, and maintenance services for building projects and infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry.
  • A valid Code B (or higher) driving license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Production: Create and build carpentry-related requirements, including building frameworks, custom furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, and decorative trims.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform general repairs on infrastructure and equipment to support the department’s facilities.
  • Administration: Manage related administrative functions, including procurement, expenditure control, and reporting.
  • Compliance: Ensure all work meets legal requirements and safety standards within the public service environment.

Knowledge and Competencies

  • Technical analysis and manufacturing of wooden structures.
  • Knowledge of the legislative framework governing the public service.
  • Experience in maintenance, repairs, and supervision.
  • Customer focus and the ability to adapt to different working environments.

Required Skills

  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical report writing and analytical thinking.
  • Planning, organizing, and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
