Artisan Rigger

De Beers Group is the world’s leading diamond company, specializing in everything from exploration and mining to retail. We are currently seeking a skilled Artisan Rigger to join our VUP Engineering department in Musina, Limpopo. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Foreman.

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will ensure the safe and efficient movement of heavy equipment and materials. Your duties will include:

  • Safety Leadership: Maintaining a “zero harm” culture by strictly following all health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Rigging Operations: Supervising and executing the lifting, stripping, and transporting of heavy equipment in both underground and surface areas.
  • Expert Advice: Advising the team on the best rigging methodologies and lifting requirements.
  • Inspections: Conducting regular inspections of winding ropes, cranes, brakes, and hooks according to the Mine Health and Safety Act and company standards.
  • Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on rigging equipment, including chain blocks, slings, couplings, and cranes, to ensure they remain in top working condition.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12, N3, or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Certification: A valid Trade Certificate as a Rigger.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of rigging experience, with a minimum of 3 years specifically in an underground mining environment.
  • Driver’s License: A valid EB / Code 8 driver’s license.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety legislation and the ability to troubleshoot and operate all lifting equipment.

Additional Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and perform standby or call-out duties as required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo specific training on the mine’s winder system.
