Assistant Accountant at Netcare Group

Netcare Group, South Africa’s leading private healthcare and medical emergency service provider, is looking for a dedicated Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who wants to grow their career within a values-driven organization.

Role Summary

The Assistant Accountant will support the Financial Accountant with general accounting tasks, maintain financial controls, and ensure all supplier payments are processed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations and Payments

  • Verify creditor invoices and ensure VAT is correctly recorded using SAP.
  • Prepare creditor reconciliations by matching invoices to supplier statements.
  • Manage payment proposals and communicate with suppliers regarding payment allocations.
  • Handle overseas payments, ensuring all bank forms and regulatory approvals (SARB) are correct.
  • Process EFT batch payments, cheque payments, and sheriff payment requisitions accurately.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Analyze travel expenses and assign costs to the correct accounts and departments.
  • Prepare detailed travel reports, including dates, destinations, and reasons for travel.
  • Maintain the General Ledger by processing monthly journals for payroll, provisions (leave pay, bonuses, staff loans), and intercompany loans.
  • Assist in preparing financial packs for dormant entities and ensure all deadlines are met.

Compliance and Reconciliation

  • Perform monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies within 30 days.
  • Ensure revenue and bad debt journals are processed according to company guidelines.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all processed financial entries.

Requirements

Education

  • Essential: Grade 12 (NQF level 4).
  • Preferred: A Diploma in Accounting or a BCom degree.

Experience

  • Essential: Recent graduate from a College or University, or currently studying towards a financial qualification (Bookkeeping, Diploma, or BCom).
  • Preferred: At least 1 year of experience in financial management or auditing.
  • Skills: Proficiency in computer systems and basic software.
