The Role
The Assistant Catering Manager supports all food service activities. Your goal is to manage daily kitchen operations, oversee the production process, and manage costs while maintaining high health and safety standards.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in food and beverage services or culinary arts is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in kitchen management.
- Proven experience working within budget guidelines.
- Experience in high-volume or complex food service environments is a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards.
- Familiarity with various catering styles, from fine dining to casual restaurants.
- Knowledge of South African labor and industry laws.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Basic computer literacy and the ability to manage budgets effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Help manage the daily operations of the assigned unit.
- Supervise the food production process to ensure quality.
- Monitor and control food and labor costs.
- Ensure full compliance with HACCP food safety regulations.
- Assist in planning and developing menus.
- Lead and manage the kitchen staff.
- Contribute to both daily tasks and long-term operational strategies.
