Role Overview

We are a leading provider of catering and hospitality services across various industries. We are currently looking for an Assistant Cook to support our kitchen operations. In this role, you will assist the Lead Cook in preparing high-quality meals while ensuring our service standards and client requirements are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
  • A culinary qualification is highly preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a professional hotel or restaurant kitchen.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Preparation and Service:

  • Collaborate with managers on daily menus and preparation needs.
  • Prepare, cook, and coordinate menu items including vegetables, soups, salads, and desserts according to specific recipes.
  • Ensure all meals are served at the correct times and follow presentation standards.
  • Prepare special dietary meals as requested by management or clients.
  • Assist in preparing food for special functions and events.
  • Taste food during preparation to ensure quality and report any concerns to management immediately.
  • Keep daily food retention samples for all meals served.

Kitchen Maintenance and Safety:

  • Clean and wash all kitchen equipment used during cooking.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including floors, tiles, and work surfaces.
  • Use cleaning agents and kitchen materials correctly and safely.
  • Follow all health, hygiene, and safety regulations.
  • Report any faulty equipment to management right away.
  • Practice “clean as you go” principles and use correct color-coded tools.

Additional Duties

  • Help in other departments or kitchen areas when needed.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Follow all company rules and professional regulations.
  • Complete any other reasonable tasks assigned by management.
