Assistant Director: Accounting and Reporting
The Northern Cape Provincial Treasury is looking for a dedicated professional to join their team in Kuruman. The primary goal of this role is to ensure that provincial resources are used efficiently and transparently, while making sure all strategic plans and budgets align with the Provincial Growth and Development Strategy.

What You Will Need
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- A recognized NQF Level 7 qualification (Bachelor’s Degree) in Financial Accounting, Financial Management, or Management Accounting.
- At least 3 years of experience working in a professional accounting environment.
- A valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities
As the Assistant Director, your duties will include:
Accounting Standards and Support
- Promote the understanding and use of accounting standards (GRAP).
- Review Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and provide feedback on their quality.
- Support municipalities in preparing and compiling their financial statements.
- Train clients and stakeholders on accounting frameworks, guidelines, and policies through various forums.
Audit and Compliance Monitoring
- Monitor the submission of audit reports and management letters.
- Help municipalities resolve audit queries and attend audit committee meetings.
- Track and report on the implementation of audit action plans to ensure compliance with the MFMA.
- Oversee the preparation of audit files and evaluate financial management strategies.
Technical Research and Reporting
- Conduct research on technical GRAP issues and provide clear guidance to municipalities.
- Participate in national accounting forums to stay updated on new standards.
- Verify Annual Financial Statements against submitted data strings to ensure accuracy.
- Follow up on outstanding data and communicate any differences or errors to the relevant municipalities.
