About the Role
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is responsible for managing and protecting South Africa’s environment and natural resources. We are looking for two qualified Assistant Directors to support Forest Research and Technology Development. This role focuses on scientific research, conservation management, and the implementation of forestry policies.
Requirements
- A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Forestry or a relevant qualification in a related field.
- A minimum of three years of experience in forestry or a related field.
- A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel.
- Successful candidates must complete two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to test technical skills and an integrity assessment.
Key Knowledge and Skills
We are looking for candidates who possess strong technical knowledge and professional skills in the following areas:
- Legislation: Familiarity with the National Forest Act, the National Veld and Forest Fire Act, and the National Environmental Management Act.
- Forestry Science: Knowledge of silviculture, forest ecology, pest and disease management, wood science, and resource valuation.
- Conservation: Understanding of general ecology, catchment hydrology, and conservation management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in research methods, strategic planning, project management, and computer software.
- Professionalism: Strong leadership abilities, creative problem-solving skills, and effective communication.
