About the Department
The Department of Water and Sanitation is the official custodian of South Africa’s water resources. The department is responsible for creating and implementing policies that ensure all citizens have access to clean water and dignified sanitation while promoting efficient water resource management across the country.
Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Director of Human Resources to join our team in Durban. This role focuses on supervising HR functions, managing staff benefits, and ensuring the department follows all public service regulations.
Requirements
- A National Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Human Resource Management, including at least 3 years at a supervisory level.
- A valid, unexpired driver’s license.
- Proven experience using the PERSAL system (a PERSAL certificate is mandatory).
- Strong knowledge of HR practices, including data capturing and administrative reporting.
- Experience in Pension Administration and conditions of service, such as leave, housing allowances, and injury on duty.
- Familiarity with the Policy on Incapacity Leave and Ill-Health Retirement (PILIR).
- Working knowledge of South African labor laws, including the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Labour Relations Act, and the Public Service Act.
- Proficiency in using databases and spreadsheet software.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily HR operations and administrative functions.
- Manage employee benefits and service conditions.
- Ensure all HR activities comply with official government prescripts and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and statistics using HR information systems.
