Role Overview

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is looking for a dedicated Assistant Director to lead initiatives in human rights, citizenship, and gender equity. This role focuses on creating an inclusive Post-School Education and Training (PSET) system that promotes social development and equal opportunities for all.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • An undergraduate degree or National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Social Science or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience at a supervisory level working with transformation issues, specifically regarding gender, HIV/AIDS, and rural development.
  • Strong knowledge of social inclusion topics, including equity, race, disability, youth development, and gender-based violence (GBV) within the education sector.
  • Experience in promoting gender equality and addressing social challenges in a professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Director, your primary duties will include:

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze the participation of women in fields like engineering, mathematics, science, and technology. You will contribute these findings to the Annual Social Inclusion Report.
  • Advancing Equality: Support the Department and educational institutions in promoting fair treatment. You will work to eliminate discrimination based on gender, race, disability, religion, and health status.
  • Program Coordination: Lead the development and implementation of projects aimed at gender transformation and the socio-economic empowerment of women.
  • Policy Oversight: Ensure the Department meets its legal and international obligations regarding human rights. You will monitor the implementation of laws related to domestic violence and sexual offences.
  • Advisory Support: Provide expert advice on gender and HIV/AIDS issues through briefing notes, speeches, and formal recommendations.
  • Research: Conduct research on social inclusion trends, write detailed reports, and coordinate events for significant calendar days related to human rights.
