Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- A NQF level 6 or 7 qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, or Commerce.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a Junior Management level specifically in Asset and Inventory management.
- A valid driver’s license.
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Director will oversee several critical functions related to provincial assets:
Policy and Strategy Development
- Coordinate and maintain asset and inventory management policies and procedure manuals.
- Develop provincial practice notes and compliance tools.
- Align asset strategies with service delivery goals.
Asset Safeguarding and Monitoring
- Monitor how departments and public entities protect assets from theft, loss, or damage.
- Ensure all losses are investigated, reported, and finalized.
- Support the functionality of loss control committees.
Financial Reporting and Audit Support
- Assist departments with MCS and GRAP compliant asset registers and financial reconciliations.
- Review Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and Interim Financial Statements (IFS).
- Help resolve audit findings and implement improvement plans.
- Support the valuation of assets and the assessment of their useful life and impairment.
Compliance and Disposal
- Perform regular compliance assessments across provincial departments.
- Manage the disposal of obsolete, redundant, or unserviceable assets.
- Ensure asset disposal follows Supply Chain Management (SCM) regulations and transparent practices.
Capacity Building
- Identify skill gaps within the department and public entities.
- Conduct workshops and on-the-job training regarding asset management and accounting standards.
