Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

• A NQF level 6 or 7 qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, or Commerce.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a Junior Management level specifically in Asset and Inventory management.
• A valid driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Director will oversee several critical functions related to provincial assets:

Policy and Strategy Development

• Coordinate and maintain asset and inventory management policies and procedure manuals.
• Develop provincial practice notes and compliance tools.
• Align asset strategies with service delivery goals.

Asset Safeguarding and Monitoring

• Monitor how departments and public entities protect assets from theft, loss, or damage.
• Ensure all losses are investigated, reported, and finalized.
• Support the functionality of loss control committees.

Financial Reporting and Audit Support

• Assist departments with MCS and GRAP compliant asset registers and financial reconciliations.
• Review Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and Interim Financial Statements (IFS).
• Help resolve audit findings and implement improvement plans.
• Support the valuation of assets and the assessment of their useful life and impairment.

Compliance and Disposal

• Perform regular compliance assessments across provincial departments.
• Manage the disposal of obsolete, redundant, or unserviceable assets.
• Ensure asset disposal follows Supply Chain Management (SCM) regulations and transparent practices.

Capacity Building

• Identify skill gaps within the department and public entities.
• Conduct workshops and on-the-job training regarding asset management and accounting standards.
