The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) is looking for a qualified professional to join our team as an Assistant Director: Risk Management. The dtic is dedicated to promoting economic growth, investment, and trade within South Africa.

What We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • A degree (NQF level 7) in Risk Management, Public Administration, Commerce, Finance, or Internal Auditing.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Risk Management within either the public or private sector.
  • Proven experience in identifying and assessing risks for various business units.
  • Experience creating and updating risk registers and project-specific risk documents.
  • The ability to draft risk management reports and templates.
  • Experience analyzing reports to find recurring trends or risks.
  • Experience leading risk-awareness training and workshops.
  • Knowledge of risk governance frameworks and supporting risk committees.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the Assistant Director: Risk Management, your duties will include:

  • Risk Assessment: Leading risk identification processes and maintaining risk registers for different branches and projects.
  • Reporting: Collecting feedback from senior managers and preparing quarterly reports for the Risk Management Committee.
  • Training: Conducting risk training sessions and webinars to improve risk awareness across the department.
  • Strategy & Policy: Helping research and develop risk management policies, including risk appetite and tolerance frameworks.
  • Audit Coordination: Managing responses to internal and external audit findings and ensuring all risk information is ready for auditing.
  • Team Management: Supervising staff, allocating duties, managing performance, and supporting staff development.
