Assistant Director: Theft of City Assets

We are looking for a skilled professional to join our Group Forensic and Investigation Services team.

Position Overview

Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng

Job Type: Full-Time

Primary Function: You will be responsible for the prevention, detection, and investigation of all cases related to the theft of City assets. Your work will ensure that reported cases are resolved effectively and that public resources are protected.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12) and a 3-year degree (NQF level 7) in Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Law, Forensic Investigations, or Information Technology.
  • Experience: At least 8 years of experience in forensic investigations, including theft, financial misconduct, or forensic accounting.
  • Leadership: Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role within either the public or private sector.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of forensic auditing, investigation processes, and systemic risk identification.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, reporting, and presentation skills, with a strong grasp of relevant laws and human resource regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigation Management: Plan and execute investigations into the theft of City assets while ensuring all activities follow established forensic methodologies and legal standards.
  • Evidence and Reporting: Document investigation findings clearly to provide decision-makers with the facts needed for disciplinary or legal action.
  • Case Management: Maintain accurate records in the investigation case management system (iCAM) and ensure all evidence is safely stored.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Participate in initiatives to raise awareness about the theft of City assets and the importance of following laws and regulations.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Build strong partnerships with internal departments and external organizations to share information and improve the City’s response to theft and non-compliance.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and reduce the impact of financial crimes.
  • Team Support: Provide leadership and management support to the unit and the Deputy Director.
