Assistant Manager Nursing (Head of Nursing)

The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is seeking a qualified professional to serve as an Assistant Manager of Nursing. This department is responsible for delivering essential public healthcare services to the people of the Western Cape province.

Role Overview

Job Type: Full-time
Location: Western Cape

Minimum Educational Requirements

  • A Basic R425 qualification (Diploma or Degree in Nursing) or an equivalent qualification that allows for registration as a Professional Nurse.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of recognizable experience in nursing after registering as a Professional Nurse with the SANC.
  • At least 3 years of this experience must be at a management level.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Proficiency in computer software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to manage conflict and solve problems creatively.
  • In-depth knowledge of health care legislation and departmental policies.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams and manage organizational research.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage personal and unit-wide workloads effectively.

Additional Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license (Code B/EB).
  • A willingness to travel for work.
  • Willingness to handle after-hours calls from the community.
