About the Role

The Gauteng Department of Health is looking for a dedicated Assistant Manager for Primary Health Care (PHC) Nursing. Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Diploma or Degree in Nursing (R425) that allows for registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • Specialty: A post-basic qualification of at least one year in Primary Health Care (PHC), accredited by SANC.
  • Management: A qualification in Health Service Management or Nursing Administration (at least one year long) accredited by SANC.
  • Experience:
    • At least 10 years of experience as a Professional Nurse.
    • At least 6 years of experience in a PHC setting after obtaining your specialty qualification.
    • At least 3 years of experience in a management role.
  • Essential Skills: Valid driver’s license and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the Nursing Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations, and the PFMA. You should also understand Batho Pele principles and the Patient’s Rights Charter.

Key Responsibilities

As the Assistant Manager, your duties will include:

  • Service Quality: Ensuring all patients receive professional, ethical, and high-quality nursing care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Compliance: Maintaining standards for the “Ideal Clinic” program and ensuring the facility follows all clinical guidelines and health safety protocols.
  • Resource Management: Managing staff, finances, and materials. You will monitor the clinic’s budget to ensure resources are used efficiently.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervising staff performance, identifying training needs, and handling staff grievances or disciplinary matters.
  • Administration: Submitting regular reports (weekly, monthly, and annually) and handling general management duties for the facility.
