Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A three-year Bachelor’s degree in Internal Auditing or Risk Management. A postgraduate degree in these fields is a strong advantage.
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years of management experience in Strategic Management, Risk Management, Internal Auditing, or Anti-Corruption. Experience in the local government sector is preferred.
  • Previous Roles: Prior experience serving on a Risk Management or Audit Committee is beneficial.
  • Independence: The candidate must be an independent external professional.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Treasury Regulations, COSO models, King IV Report on Corporate Governance, and Public Sector Risk Management Frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

The Chairperson will support the Accounting Officer in managing risks to help the Municipality achieve its goals. Main duties include:

  • Reviewing and monitoring the implementation of risk management policies and strategies.
  • Providing expert advice on integrating risk management into municipal planning and reporting.
  • Guiding the committee on setting risk appetite, tolerance levels, and anti-fraud measures.
  • Leading committee meetings and ensuring activities comply with the MFMA and the Public Sector Risk Management Framework.
  • Providing timely reports and recommendations to the Accounting Officer regarding the state of risk management.
