Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related qualification.
  • Certifications: A valid Trade Test Certificate in Spray Painting or Panel Beating. You must also hold Assessor and Moderator Certificates.
  • Experience: At least three years of supervisory experience as a Motor Mechanic.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Deep understanding of the Skills Development Act (1998).
    • Ability to conduct and moderate trade tests in motor mechanics and related fields.
    • Experience with the Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) process and toolkit.
    • Ability to implement Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards in a workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

As the Chief Artisan, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Testing and Moderation: Conduct and moderate internal and external trade tests for Spray Painting and Panel Beating.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain and secure all assessment records.
  • Leadership: Supervise Chief Artisan A and Trade Assistants. Manage staff performance through the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS).
  • Operations: Oversee the procurement of workshop equipment and materials. Ensure all workshop activities comply with safety regulations.
  • Management Support: Assist the Deputy Director with administrative and management tasks as required.
