The Department of Higher Education and Training is looking for a qualified and experienced Chief Artisan B Motor Mechanic to join our team in Gauteng. This is a full-time position focused on overseeing motor mechanic trade testing and ensuring high standards of technical training and safety.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related qualification.
  • Certification: A valid Trade Test Certificate in Motor Mechanic Trade, along with Assessor and Moderator Certificates.
  • Experience: At least three (3) years of supervisory experience specifically as a Motor Mechanic.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the Skills Development Act of 1998, Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) processes, and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
  • Skills: Ability to interpret trade testing regulations and implement ARPL toolkits.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Trade Testing: Conduct and moderate trade tests for Motor Mechanics and related trades.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) and ensure all assessment records are kept safely.
  • Supervision: Lead and manage staff, including Chief Artisan A and Trade Assistants, and handle performance management (PMDS).
  • Workshop Management: Maintain a safe working environment in the workshop and oversee the procurement of assessment equipment and materials.
  • Administrative Support: Assist the Deputy Director with management activities and conduct internal and external moderation of tests.
