Job Overview

  • Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7)

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A recognized NQF level 7 qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Media and Journalism, or Digital Marketing.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior management position within a relevant field.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Public Service Act and the Government Communication Information System (GCIS).
  • Strong understanding of the National Communication Strategy Framework and Language Policy.
  • Familiarity with the Intellectual Property and Copyright Act, POPIA, and PAIA regarding information and content management.
  • Knowledge of the Corporate Identity Manual and a comprehensive understanding of the South African media landscape.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Chief Director: Communications will be responsible for the following:

  • Leading and managing both internal and external communication services for the department.
  • Overseeing the development of all departmental content and messaging.
  • Managing Public Relations and departmental event management services.
  • Acting as the official spokesperson for the department.
  • Managing the directorate’s budget, human resources, and overall performance in compliance with government regulations.
