About the Position

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Chief Director: Consumer and Corporate Regulation. This senior leadership position is responsible for driving structural transformation and supporting economic development within South Africa through effective regulation and strategic management.

Requirements

  • Education: A qualification at NQF level 7 (Bachelor’s Degree) as recognized by SAQA in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or Public Management.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of senior managerial experience in either the private sector or government.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning
Develop and review the branch’s strategic and operational plans. Ensure these plans align with the department’s goals and government priorities. You will also lead the preparation of performance plans, human resource plans, and the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain strong partnerships with local and international stakeholders, including business, labor, government, and parliament. You will manage branch communications, coordinate media responses, and oversee participation in regional and international forums like SADC and WIPO.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
Track branch performance against business plans and implement corrective actions when necessary. Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Executive and Parliament.

Operational Management
Oversee the allocation of financial and human resources. Ensure the branch remains compliant with audit requirements and internal administration standards. You will also manage labor relations and performance agreements within the team.

Senior Management Support
Provide high-quality briefs, data analysis, and background papers to the DDG and other Chief Directors. Coordinate responses to parliamentary questions, cabinet memoranda, and other high-level executive requests.

Entity Oversight
Coordinate the relationship between the branch and its reporting entities. This includes overseeing governance matters, budget transfers, board appointments, and stakeholder consultation frameworks.
