About the Department
The Department of Water and Sanitation is the custodian of South Africa’s water resources. We are responsible for creating and implementing policies that ensure all South Africans have access to clean water and proper sanitation. We also focus on the effective and efficient management of our country’s water systems.

Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: An Engineering Degree (B Eng/BSc Eng) in Civil or Water Engineering. A postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) in Water Resources or Hydrology is a plus.
- Professional Registration: You must be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
- Experience: At least six years of engineering experience after your qualification. You should have experience in water resource planning, modelling, and project management.
- Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required, and you must be willing to travel extensively.
- Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with the National Water Act, Water Services Act, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
- Skills: Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and a commitment to training and developing junior graduates.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage water resource planning and modelling.
- Oversee program and contract management.
- Conduct environmental engineering assessments and project financing modelling.
- Work with professional teams to implement water policies and infrastructure projects.
