Robben Island Museum is a public entity responsible for the management, conservation, and marketing of Robben Island as a National Estate and World Heritage Site. Established in 1997, RIM plays a vital role in education, tourism development, and research, preserving the island’s legacy for future generations.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic and operational leadership for the museum’s financial health. You will oversee audit processes, governance, and financial reporting, ensuring the museum remains sustainable and compliant with all national regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the museum’s financial sustainability and reporting functions.
- Prepare Annual Financial Statements and Annual Reports in line with the PFMA and National Treasury guidelines.
- Ensure all reporting to the Council and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is submitted accurately and on time.
- Strengthen financial systems and internal controls to improve organizational performance.
- Support the museum’s strategic renewal and long-term sustainability.
Requirements
- Qualification: Must be a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)).
- Experience: At least 10 years of senior financial management experience, with at least 7 years in an executive leadership role.
- Audit Track Record: Proven ability to lead audits in a PFMA-regulated public entity, including achieving at least two consecutive unqualified audit outcomes within the past five years.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of National Treasury requirements and public sector financial reporting.
- Advantageous: An MBA or a relevant postgraduate qualification is a plus.
