About the Department

The Department of Water and Sanitation is the custodian of South Africa’s water resources. The department is responsible for creating and implementing policies that ensure all South Africans have access to clean water and proper sanitation while promoting efficient water management across the country.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a dedicated Chief HR Practitioner to specialize in Labour Relations. This role is vital in maintaining a healthy workplace environment through effective policy implementation, dispute resolution, and advisory services.

Requirements

  • Education: A three-year Degree or National Diploma in Human Resource Management, Labour Relations, or BCom Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
  • Experience: Four to five years of experience in Labour Relations, including a solid understanding of labour processes and policy development.
  • Legal Knowledge: Practical knowledge of government legislation, financial management, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
  • Skills: Strong negotiation, project management, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on ethical conduct and accountability.
  • Leadership: Proven ability in people and diversity management, planning, and organization.
  • License: A valid and unexpired driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Development: Assist in creating and implementing employee relations policies and training programs.
  • Advisory Services: Provide expert advice on employee relations and ensure the department remains compliant with employment equity standards.
  • Conflict Resolution: Coordinate and facilitate disciplinary processes, grievance resolutions, and dispute resolution procedures.
  • Collective Bargaining: Manage interactions with employee organizations and improve the handling of collective bargaining within the directorate.
  • Reporting: Coordinate and facilitate the preparation of essential departmental reports.
