Job Overview

Breede Valley Municipality is seeking a qualified Chief Laboratory Analyst to manage our laboratory services. This role is vital for ensuring the safety and quality of our wastewater, drinking water, and environmental monitoring systems. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation of service delivery plans to maintain a healthy environment for our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor short-term and medium-term plans for laboratory services.
  • Lead and supervise the performance of the laboratory team.
  • Establish and maintain procedures that comply with water treatment laws and local bylaws.
  • Manage the procurement of laboratory goods, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance of technical projects and monitor supply quality.
  • Oversee the collection, testing, and recording of samples to ensure accurate data.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on laboratory practices and safety.
  • Manage air quality monitoring within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to health and safety regulations (OHS Act).

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: A 4-year tertiary qualification in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related Science field.
  • Professional Registration: Must be registered with SACNASP as a Pr.Sci.Nat.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of relevant experience post-professional registration, or 2 to 5 years of post-graduate research experience (MSc).
  • License: A valid Code B driver’s license.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong mathematical abilities, and excellent laboratory skills.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in testing and reporting.
