About the Position
Govan Mbeki Municipality is seeking a professional and experienced Chief of Fire to lead our fire and rescue services. Our mission is to serve the community by providing high-quality, sustainable services, ensuring financial stability, and fostering a safe environment for economic growth and job creation.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- National Diploma in Fire Technology.
- Valid Code C driver’s license.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in fire department operations, with at least 5 years in a middle management role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and municipal regulations.
- Proven skills in project management, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Must meet the competency requirements for municipal staff as set out in the Government Gazette.
Key Responsibilities
- Set long-term goals and public safety priorities for the fire department.
- Develop and maintain efficient processes for delivering emergency services.
- Manage departmental staff to ensure they meet performance objectives.
- Oversee administrative systems to ensure the department runs smoothly and stays within budget.
- Apply fire safety and technology principles to existing buildings and new development projects.
- Conduct risk assessments and identify hazards throughout the municipality.
- Promote community safety awareness and disaster preparedness.
- Coordinate timely and effective responses to fires and other emergencies.
- Ensure all fire vehicles, equipment, and personnel are always ready for operation.
- Work closely with police, EMS, and disaster management teams to handle large-scale emergencies.
