Child and Youth Care Worker (Grade 1)

About the Position

The Limpopo Department of Social Development is committed to transforming society by building capable and conscious citizens. We are looking for dedicated individuals to join the Polokwane Welfare Complex to provide essential care and developmental support to children and youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reception and Orientation: Receive children and youth into the facility and provide them with a proper orientation of the center.
  • Care and Protection: Ensure the safety, development, and well-being of all children and youth in the facility.
  • Health and Wellness: Ensure that all residents receive necessary medical services and healthcare.
  • Program Facilitation: Organize recreational activities and programs designed to teach independent living skills.
  • Family Support: Coordinate family visits and maintain regular contact between residents and their families.
  • Support Services: Escort youth to external appointments and assist with the implementation of developmental and therapy programs.
  • Administration: Perform daily administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.

Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
  • Specialized Training: An FET Certificate in Child and Youth Care (NQF 4) as recognized by SAQA.
  • Professional Registration: Valid and current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of the Children’s Act, Child Care Act, and Child Justice Act.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain professional and calm under pressure.
  • A high level of honesty, confidentiality, and a commitment to quality service.
