Child and Youth Care Worker (Grade 1)

Role Overview

The Limpopo Department of Social Development is looking for a dedicated Child and Youth Care Worker to join our team. Our mission is to transform society by building conscious and capable citizens through high-quality social development services.

Key Responsibilities

As a Child and Youth Care Worker, your primary duties will include:

  • Welcoming children and youth to the facility and providing them with an orientation of the center.
  • Providing daily care, development, and protection for children and youth.
  • Ensuring all residents receive necessary medical services and healthcare.
  • Facilitating recreational activities and programs that support independent living.
  • Organizing and managing family visits and communication.
  • Escorting children to external appointments and services.
  • Assisting with the implementation of therapy and developmental programs.
  • Completing required administrative tasks accurately and on time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent qualification.
  • An FET Certificate in Child and Youth Care (NQF Level 4) recognized by SAQA.
  • Current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • A solid understanding of the Children’s Act, Child Care Act, and Child Justice Act.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively.
  • A commitment to honesty, confidentiality, and excellent customer service.
