About SARS
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is the national authority responsible for collecting taxes and managing customs. Our mission is to administer the South African tax system and ensure national duties and levies are collected fairly and efficiently to support the nation’s growth.
Job Purpose
As a Consultant in the Taxpayer Interface Office, you will provide expert advice and support to improve our service delivery. Your main goal is to resolve client requests effectively and ensure that taxpayers receive high-quality assistance.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Option 1: A National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) with 2 to 3 years of experience in corporate tax, Customs, or Excise. At least 1 to 2 of those years should be at a knowledge worker level.
- Option 2: A Senior Certificate (Matric / NQF 4) with at least 5 years of experience in corporate tax, Customs, or Excise. At least 1 to 2 of those years should be at a knowledge worker level.
Key Responsibilities
Operations and Process Management
- Collect information and create reports with recommendations for your department.
- Use your technical knowledge to identify trends and potential risks in tax procedures.
- Plan and schedule your work to ensure tasks are completed on time and with high quality.
- Implement new processes and provide guidance when procedures change.
- Apply tax legislation, policies, and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Resolve taxpayer queries and problems, escalating complex issues when necessary.
- Process applications for CIT, VAT, PAYE, and Customs, ensuring all data is accurate.
- Follow up with taxpayers regarding missing documents or incomplete information.
Customer Service
- Build strong, positive relationships with taxpayers.
- Ensure every client receives a clear resolution to their query before leaving the service center.
- Educate taxpayers on their rights and responsibilities.
- Keep taxpayers updated on the progress of their requests.
Governance and Teamwork
- Follow all internal rules and compliance procedures to manage risks.
- Work closely with team members and other departments to solve problems.
- Help the organization save costs by following financial policies.
